It's available to watch on Disney+ or other services. It usually took 11 to 12 hours to render a single frame of Sulley because of his 2.3 million individually animated hair strands.

The writers decided to make Boo younger because it would make her more dependent on Sulley. In early drafts, the character of Boo was written to be six years old. Based on an original story by Pete Docter& Jill Culton & Jeff Pidgeon & Ralph Eggleston. The screenplay is by Andrew Stanton & Daniel Gerson. It was directed by Pete Docter (making his very first feature at the time), and co-directed by David Silverman and Lee Unkrich. Intro from YouTube: "It's scarin' time! Grab your popcorn and watch Mike and Sulley fill up those scream canisters in this classic silent film style." Pixar's Monsters Inc first opened in theaters in November of 2001. I can still watch it anytime and I always feel better. It's still one of my favorite Pixar movies actually, it's one of the best animated movies ever made. Monsters Inc is celebrating its 20th anniversary this month, originally opening in the fall of 2001.

I love the attention to detail, all the fun title cards, and I really appreciate that they actually redid the entire movie (which normally runs 92 minutes) as a silent film.

The full 4-minute "short film" is available on YouTube and it's a totally swell way to brighten up your day. The fine folks at Pixar have released an amusing " Pixar Remix" video taking Monsters Inc and turning it into a classic silent movie. It was revealed to be sold when Carl decided to find an actual home for him and Dug."Get that little whippersnapper back quick! The company depends on it!" Grab your popcorn and soda, get your 1¢ ticket, and enjoy this old timey presentation of a classic work of cinema. The blimp appears in the opening of the series. In the short "George and A.J.", Carl lands the Spirit of Adventure on George and A.J.'s van, crushing it completely, much to their horror. At the end of the film, the airship is parked over the handicap spot by Fenton's Ice Cream as Carl, Russell, and Dug observe passing cars. A small portion of the exhibition hall (the window where some portions of animal skeletons fell on) was also damaged.Īfter Muntz's death, the airship is now owned by Carl and Russell, with Dug as the new leader of the dog pack, which they use to return to the U.S.A. The airship also has a hangar to carry small biplanes.ĭuring Carl's mission to rescue Kevin, most of the animal skeletons and antiques in the exhibition hall were destroyed and lost (some due to Muntz's violent rage to kill Carl, others due to Dug accidentally pushing the lever that turned the dirigible sideways after being cornered by the dog pack). The bones of a large bird (the species Kevin is) can also be seen in the airship, including all the helmets of fallen adventurers he has knocked off and stored inside. The giant airship has several chambers, including a dining room, a hall of animal skeletons, and the bridge. Muntz traveled the world in this airship, and has used it to collect various things he found along the way.
